Speeches

over the past few weeks, the senior school has been working on speeches. the way speeches work at our school is, you present your speech to the class, then the winner of your class speech competition goes on to the school speech competition, then the winner of that goes on to the Papatoetoe schools speech competition and so on.

Now this is my speech I didn't want to be part of the speech competition so I will do my speech in the next few days with the other people in the class
  here is my speech.

Why break time should be longer…

Have you ever been playing a game, when suddenly the bell goes? Break time is way too short, we never have enough time to finish our game. This is why I think break time should be longer.

First, you’ll have more time to play and, be part of clubs. Playing is great exercise for growing bodies, and brains. Being outside also gets children to enjoy their surroundings, they get fresh air, and they have something to do other than being on a device.

Children these days are always glued to a device, that results in them being unfit and lazy. Having longer breaks gives children more time to run around and get fit. Going back to having time to be part of clubs. Sports Teams, like rugby, soccer, swimming, gymnastics and more, get time to train and prepare and learn new skills.

Second, we won't have to gulp down our food quickly, so we have time to play. We can enjoy our food and still have lots of time to play. Eating fast, and rushing to eat your food, leads to poor digestion, and you will still feel hungry after.

Third, we need to make friends, don't we? Well… How will we make friends if we don't even have time to finish a game? Friendships are a big part of interacting and learning. When children make friends, they develop important life skills.

Have you ever had trouble concentrating or remembering something? Second of all, being outside, running around, stretching your legs all helps with your concentration and memory. Concentration and memory are key when writing, reading and working out problems. Have you ever had trouble concentrating or remembering something?

In conclusion, longer break times are great because you have more time to play, eat, make friends and you will be able to concentrate better. What do you think, should we have longer break time?

  1. Some great points in your speech :)

  2. Clearly written argument. You have defined the problem and used evidence to support each idea. You have used rhetorical questions to make the listener become involved. A good conclusion, too.
