What is ballet?

Ballet is an art form it is graceful and floaty, it is also one of the main styles of dance in the world!

Leotards

All ballerinas wear a leotard. Leotards are like togs same shape but different material. At some dance studios, you may have to wear a certain colour leotard. Professional ballerinas wear just a leotard to class!

Skirts

Young ballerinas wear skirts. Skirts are a silky material and they are soft too. Some skirts are attached to the leotard, some have elastic and some you have to tie up.

Shoes

To be a ballerina you need shoes or ballet slippers. Ballet shoes are like ballet flats with an elastic piece going over the top of the foot. When you get a little more advanced you can sew on your ribbons and when you way more advanced you can move into pointe shoes! They are a big deal.

Ballet is a lot of hard work but it is worth it when you get to perform!
